It is a well-established fact that children from high-income families tend to have high incomes themselves. However, the knowledge about what explains this intergenerational income correlation is more limited. The project aims at increasing our understanding of the role played by the labour market in this correlation. We focus particularly on which employers children and parents work for, and what the effects of thisare on the children’s career development, incomes, and the income correlation between children and parents.

To study these questions, we use Swedish register data on children’s and parents’ education, incomes, and employer and industry affiliation. We use the multi-generation register to link children to parents and information from RAMS to link individuals to employers and workplaces.
